It is a time when Catholics can deepen their baptismal life through prayer, fasting and works of charity. The ashes received on Ash Wednesday symbolize what the Lenten season means. We are called to die to ourselves so that we can rise with the Lord on Easter. Lent is also the time for candidates and catechumens to make final preparations to receive the Sacraments of Initiation at the Easter Vigil. Lent is directed to the Sacred Triduum that is one celebration which lasts three days. Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and the Easter Vigil make up the most solemn and sacred celebration of the year. This weekend we have available the rice bowls for those who would like to use them in Lent. The offerings from these bowls will be collected on Palm Sunday. The sacrificial cards will be available next weekend. They too will be collected on Palm Sunday. Easter flower envelopes will be available next weekend. Parishioners are invited to write the names of their loved ones. They will be published on Easter Sunday in the bulletin. |
