ASH WEDNESDAY is this Wednesday. Ashes will be distributed at Masses at 9 a.m., 3:30 (with the CCD children), and 7 p.m. (bilingual). Ash Wednesday & Good Friday are days of fasting (Catholics between 18 & 59 can eat one full meal, with nothing in between meals. 2 other smaller meals may be taken, as long as together they do not equal a full meal) & abstinence from meat (for Catholics 14 and older).

STATION CHURCH HERE THURSDAY: Among the ancient Lenten traditions in Rome are the Station Churches. Each day pilgrims go to churches around the city so as to visit the tombs of saints and celebrate Mass. During the Year of the Eucharist the Diocese of Fall River has designated churches each day of Lent for pilgrimage. We have been named the Station Church for Thursday. We will have the 9 a.m. Mass, then adoration of the Blessed Sacrament will be offered until just before the 7 p.m. bilingual Mass, when there will be Benediction. Please come sometime during the day to spend some time in prayer with Our Lord as we begin the Lenten season.

St. Val St. Valentine’s Social will be held on the evening of Saturday, February 12, 2005 in our parish hall. Admission tickets ($5) for the social are being sold at the doors of the church and at the rectory. The social will include a DJ for dancing. Refreshments and snacks will be for sale. We will also have a raffle, since a friend of the parish has donated 2 tickets to the Sunday, March 6 Celtics vs. Minnesota Timberwolves game (Balcony Sec. 301, Row 8, Seats 18 &19), which begins at 6 p.m. We will also have 2 prizes of gift cards to area supermarkets. You can return the raffle tickets to via mail, dropping through the rectory mail slot or via the collection. Thank you for your help to the parish. We hope that you will all make an effort to attend.

year of the eucharist sharing groups: With the end of the RENEW cycle, the diocese has offered resources to continue growing in our faith and sharing it with each other. For this Lent we will be using the booklet "Year of the Eucharist," which explores our experience of the Mass and the Blessed Sacrament. Groups will meet on Mondays at 9:45 a.m. and Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7 p.m. The initial meetings will be next week (2/14, 15 or 17), at which time the participants can decide together their own schedule. All are welcome! The meetings will be held in the rectory.

Channel 6 MASS – Fr. Racine will be celebrating the Channel 6 Mass on February 12th at 9:00 a.m. at the Chapel at Bishop Stang High School. All are welcome to come and attend. The mass will be aired on Channel 6 on Sunday February 20th at 11:00 a.m.

CCD PARENTS OF CHILDREN WHO NEED BAPTISM will have a meeting this Friday at 7 p.m. in the hall (this is for children who are already in the CCD program but are just formally becoming Catholic this year). This important meeting will be to discuss dates and times and other details.

EDUCATION COMMITTEE will meet this Saturday at 9:45 in the rectory to discuss upcoming programs. All are welcome.

FOCOLARE MEETING: Next Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. in the rectory. The Catholic Focolare Movement, founded in Trent, Italy after WWII, is present today in 182 nations & reaches over 5 million people. Their goal is one of striving towards the fulfillment of Jesus’ prayer to the Father, "May they all be one" (John 17:21). Lenten Mission @ Holy GHost Church- Former Pentecostal Minister Alex Jones to conduct mission at Holy Ghost Church in Tiverton, RI. Alex was led to a new understanding of the Catholic Church through preparation for his weekly bible study. AYUDA PARA MADRES NECESITADAS: "A Women’s Concern" es un Nuevo centro de asistencia en Fall River que ayuda mamas de nuestra diocesis que tienen problemas con su embarazo. Nuestro organista, Steve, es la persona de contacto de nuestra parroquia. AWC pide que participemos en su Campaña de Biberones. ESTE JUEVES – ADORACION TODO EL DIA: En Roma hay una costumbre desde hace siglos de visitar diversas iglesias cada dia de la Cuaresma. Llaman esa iglesias "Estaciones" (y esto era siglos antes de tener estaciones de trenes). Este año 2005 es el Año de la Eucaristia y la diócesis de Fall River ha designado iglesias como Estaciones y la nuestra será la estación este jueves. Empezaremos con la Misa a las 9, luego el Santissimo Sacramento estará expuesto en el altar todo el dia para que la gente pueda venir a rezar y terminaremos con la Bendicción eucaristica y la Misa a las 7. Por favor, ven y comienza la Cuaresma en oración delante de Nuestro Señor.

COMITE NUEVA FAMILIA se reunirá el lunes a las 5:30 en la rectoria para finalizar los planes para la fiesta de San Valentín y para ver que vamos a hacer en marzo y abril. Todos estan bienvenidos.

Fiesta de San Valentín: La tendremos en la noche del sábado, 12 de febrero, en el salon parroquial. Se puede comprar entradas ($5) en la puerta de la iglesia o en la casa cural. La fiesta tendrá un DJ con musica para bailar y la comida estará a la venta. Ademas, un amigo de la parroquía donó 2 entradas a los Celtics vs. los Minnesota Timberwolves (Balcony Sec. 301, Row 8, Seats 18 &19), para el domingo, 6 de marzo a las 6 de la tarde. También tendremos 2 premios de "gift certificates" para supermercados. Se puede devolver los tickets de la rifa por correo, personalmente a la rectoria o en la colecta de la Misa. MISA PARA EL CANAL 6 – El Padre Racine estará celebrando la Misa para el Canal 6 el 12 de febrero a las 9:00 de la mañana en la Capilla de Bishop Stang High School. Todos están invitados a asistir. La Misa se podrá ver en el Canal 6 el domingo 20 de febrero a las 11:00 de la mañana.

 

REUNION PARA PADRES DE LOS NIÑOS DEL CATECISMO QUE NECESITAN EL BAUTISMO: Este viernes a las 7 p.m. en el salón (es para niños que ya estan en el programa del catecismo pero que no han sido iniciados en la fe catolica). Esta reunion importante será una oportunidad para hablar de fechas y otros detalles.

REUNION DEL FOCOLARE: el domingo próximo de 6 a 8 en la rectoria. El movimiento Focolare fue fundado en Trento, Italia despues de la Segunda Guerra Mundial. Está presente en 182 naciones y tiene mas de 5 millones de miembros. Un grupo de amigas se dio cuenta que Dios es el unico ideal por el cual vale la pena vivir y como resultado centraron su vida en el Evangelio. Se volvió su objetivo el esfuerzo de cumplir la oración de Jesus al Padre: "Que todos sean uno" (Juan 17, 21). ESTUDIO BIBLICO EN ESPAÑOL: Tendremos una reunion hoy (domingo) a las 6 p.m. en la rectoria para comenzar un estudio biblico en español. Todos están bienvenidos.

MIERCOLES DE CENIZA se celebra esta semana. Recibiremos las cenizas en Misa a las 9 a.m (ingles), 3:30 (con los niños de catecismo) y 7 p.m. (bilingue). Miercoles de Ceniza y Viernes Santo son dias de ayuno (catolicos entre las edades de 18 y 59 solamente pueden comer una comida completa y no pueden comer entre comidas. Si tienen 2 otras pequeñas comidas, esas dos juntas no pueden superar lo comido en la comida principal) y de abstinencia (los que tienen mas que 14 años no se puede comer carne).
