MEAT PIE SUPPER WILL BE HELD ON SATURDAY, MARCH 1, 2003 @ 5:30 P.M. IN THE CHURCH HALL. Tickets will be $6 per person.

LITURGICAL CHANGES

We ask that parishioners remain standing after the Gospel is proclaimed until the Book of the Gospels is enthroned in its place of honor.

We in union with the United States Conference of Bishops also invite parishioners to make a bow before receiving Communion. This is a small way of expressing reverence for the Eucharist.

WARNING

It is strongly recommended that ladies bring their pocketbooks with them when they go to Communion. It is also recommended that no one leaves any valuable possessions in their cars when they come to Mass.

The doors of the church hall will be closed on Sundays. Students for Grades 7,8, and 9 need to go to the hall by the church.

LENTEN COLLECTION OF FOOD FOR THE POOR

ST. JAMES’ ST. VINCENT DE PAUL FOOD PANTRY

Our parish maintains a food pantry and delivers bags of food to our needy parishioners on a regular schedule.

We invite our parishioners to include their Lenten sacrificial giving in their weekly shopping. The St. Vincent de Paul Society suggests that parishioners donate certain food items each week during Lent. This will allow our needy families to have adequate bags of food delivered to them.

A list of these food items will be included in this bulletin:

Sunday, March 9

Spaghetti Sauce and canned vegetables

Sunday, March 16

canned meat (spam) and jam/jelly

Sunday, March 23

canned spaghetti and pasta (macaroni, shells, etc.)

Sunday, March 30

canned tomatoes, soups and beef stew

Sunday, April 6

canned beans and peanut butter

Sunday, April 13

canned fruit and tuna fish

ST. JAMES HEALTH MINISTRY

BLOOD BANK

The St. James Health Ministry will be sponsoring, in collaboration with St. John the Baptist Church, our annual blood drive on Sunday, March 2. Blood is one health care item not covered by health insurance, and one frequently needed during time of surgery or illness. Donation by any parishioner enables any member of the parish to draw on our blood bank in time of need.

A team from St. Luke’s Hospital will be available in St. John the Baptist Church Hall after all the Masses. The procedure takes about thirty minutes. As we take time to

Renew ourselves spiritually, please consider giving the gift of physical life to one in need.

RENEW

We are preparing for our second session of Renew which will begin on February 24. The theme of the faith sharing sessions and of the homilies at the weekend Masses will be Conversion. The part of the Mass that will high lighted will be the Liturgy of the Word.

Renew is a process by which parishes can grow spiritually and grow in understanding the Faith. The foundation of Renew is the faith sharing groups when people can gather once a week for six weeks and share their faith with others. People can participate as much as they wish.

The commitment to the Faith Sharing group is once a week for six weeks. This session will fall during Lent which is a wonderful way of observing this time of Penance.

Renew is being held in our diocese as a preparation for the centennial celebration of our diocese in 2004.

ANCHOR SUBSCRIPTION

There are envelopes at the entrances of the church today for any parishioner who would like to subscribe to the Anchor for the first time.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Fr. Mick McCullough, Chaplain at St. Luke’s Hospital and a resident priest at St. James Rectory, is asking parishioners to consider helping his ministry at the hospital by doing secretarial work. If anyone is interested, please contact Fr. Mick.

THE SACRAMENT OF CONFIRMATION WILL BE CELEBRATED AT THE PARISH MASS ON SATURDAY, MARCH 8, 2003 AT 4 P.M.

MONSIGNOR JOHN SMITH WILL BE THE CELEBRANT.
