PARISH MISSION Will be held for all the churches in our city at Holy
Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church on Mt. Pleasant St. in New
Bedford. March 26 ‑ March 29 at 7 p.m. Celebration
of Mass will be held at 11 a.m. each day during the Mission for people
who cannot make the evening Mass. Lenten preaching will be part of this
Mass. Every
evening at 7 p.m. Mass will be celebrated with Lenten preaching. There
will be a Penance Service on the last night of the Mission at 7 p.m. Fr.
Marc Montminy of St. Marie Parish in Manchester, New Hampshire will
preach at both the morning and evening Masses. Mt.
Carmel, St. John the Baptist and St. James Parishes will be sponsoring a
bus to bring people to and from the Mission in the evening. This
can be a very important part of our Lenten journey. We encourage
parishioners to take part in this experience of the bigger church. ASH WEDNESDAY,
FEBR VARY 28 The Liturgical
Committee suggested that we try something to include all parishioners in
a special way. Parishioners are invited to write on a piece of
paper one fault or spiritual barrier that they would
like to diminish during Lent. As they come for the signing of ashes
during the Mass, they are asked to place this paper (unsigned) into a
bowl. These will be placed near the cross during the season of Lent and
burned at the Easter Vigil. The
reason why these papers will not be burned on Ash Wednesday is so that
we will not take away from the importance of the Easter fire on Holy
Saturday night. The sign of dying to these faults by these papers being
burned in the Easter fire will then highlight the resurrection in our
lives. EASTER
FLOWER MEMORIAL ENVELOPES Will be available in the entrances of the
church next weekend. Parishioners are invited to write the names of
their loved ones. Please place this in the collection no later than Palm
Sunday so that these names can be published on Easter Sunday. In
next week's bulletin the regulations for fast and abstinence will be
included. Although it is not the law of the Church, parishioners are
invited to extend the fast and abstinence of Good Friday to Holy
Saturday until the Easter Vigil. This extra time is called the Paschal
Fast and is a special way of preparing for the Vigil and Feast of
Easter. |
