Parish Pastoral Council meeting will be held on Monday, May 7 at 7 p.m. in the rectory LENTEN FOOD FOR THE POOR St. James’ St. Vincent de Paul Society invites parishioners to participate in our food collection during the season of Lent. Certain items are collected each week so that we will be able to give adequate food to the poor families of the parish each week of the year. This is a way that the poor can accompany us on our Lenten journey. *Sunday, March 25 Fourth Sunday in Lent Canned tomatoes/ sauce, canned soups / beef stew *Sunday, April 1 Fifth Sunday in Lent Baked beans and peanut butter *Sunday, April 8 Palm Sunday Canned fruit and macaroni and cheese dinner EASTER FLOWERS ENVELOPES Are available at the entrances of the church. Parishioners are invited to write the names of their deceased loved ones on the envelope with their contribution for the flowers that will used to decorate the church at Easter. These names will be published in the Easter Sunday bulletin. Please return these envelopes no later than Palm Sunday, April 8. Also, the rice bowls and sacrificial cards should be placed in the first collection on Palm Sunday. THIRD SUNDAY OF LENT MARCH 18, 2001 The Parish Mission that will be held at the Church of the Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus on Mt. Pleasant St. in New Bedford is our second annual Mission for the whole city of New Bedford and suburbs. It gives all of us a bigger experience of Church. It is a wonderful way of journeying the Season of Lent with each other. A bus will be available to transport people to and from the Mission. Mt. Carmel, St. John the Baptist, and St. James Parishes will be sponsoring the bus. The bus will be leaving from the front of St. James Church each night at 6:30 p.m. WELCOME TO THE PARISH Christopher and Crystal Louro Hector, Icela, Andres, and Adrian Castro HOLY THURSDAY is the beginning of the three most sacred days of the church year: Sacred Triduum. Washing of the feet is a part of this night’s celebration. It recalls the Church’s mission to serve the needs of all. It does what Jesus did on this night: to wash the feet of his apostles as a sign of loving one another. Any parishioners who would like to participate in this special ceremony, please call the rectory.
