The Parish Vocations Committee will be sponsoring a 31 day prayer club for the month of May. A calendar will be set up in the gathering area next weekend. Parishioners are invited to pick one day in the month of May to pray for vocations to the priesthood and religious life. Please write your name in the square of the date that you would like to select. It is hoped that every date will be taken by parishioners so that the entire month will be a time of prayer for this intention.Bishop Sean O’Malley wrote a Pastoral Letter during the Holy Year 2000 on fostering vocations to the religious life and priesthood. It was entitled, "Vocations: Everyone’s Business". The exhibit of the calendar and various pictures of people in religious life will have the same title. The Committee also sponsors a Holy Hour during Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament on the first Sunday of the month. In this hour prayers and readings are offered for the same intention. The Vocations Committee will also be sponsoring other ways to foster vocations. PARISH NOMINATIONS FOR MEMBERS OF THE PARISH PASTORAL COUNCIL ARE BEING ACCEPTED THIS WEEKEND AND NEXT WEEKEND. PLEASE PLACE YOUR NOMINATIONS IN THE BOXES AT THE ENTRANCES OF THE CHURCH. These parishioners will be contacted to see whether they want their names submitted for nomination. If they do, their names will be placed on a ballot and the present members of the Parish Pastoral Council will vote on Monday, May 7 in the rectory. PARISH SELF STUDY REPORT has been completed. The Parish Pastoral Council met with all four parish committees (Hospitality Committee, Health Care Committee, Education Committee, and Liturgical Committee) during this past year to evaluate their work, to set goals for the future, and to understand the nature of the work. The reports of each of these meeting is part of the study. A parish survey was conducted in November of 1999 to see what the parishioners thoughts were on some matters. The Parish Pastoral Council will vote on the acceptance of the report. It will discuss the best way to present the report to the parish.
UNITED INTERFAITH ACTION WILL MEET THIS TUESDAY, April 24 at the Church of the Ascension in Fall River at 7 p.m. UIA members will evaluate the meeting with the New Bedford School Committee on Monday April 9 at the Hathaway School. Preparations for an ACTION meeting will begin. Continuing dialogue with community organizers from other areas of the state on the issue of more jobs will also take place. All parishioners are invited to attend. |
