JAMES’ WEB SITE http://www.saintjames-nb.org PRAYER LINE Call Alice Lester 508- 997-8040 coming together st. James Parish St. anne parish Nuestra seÑora de Guadalupe parish St. hedwig parish Our merger will be conducted in two stages. The first stage will be the merger of St. Anne’s Parish with ours, which will occur on Saturday, June 26 at the 4 p.m. Mass. We will welcome the people of St. Anne’s formally at that Mass and Father Richard and Deacon Larry will be joined by Father Buote and Deacon Morency on the altar. The statue of St. Anne will be transferred here, as well as the altar. Fr. Buote & Deacon Morency will begin their retirements by entrusting their flock to us. May we all be good shepherds, each in our own way. The Hospitality Committee will be organizing a reception after Mass. The second stage will be the merging of St. Hedwig & Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe parishes with ours. That will occur on Saturday, July 24 at the 4 p.m. Mass. This year the Feast of St. James falls on a Sunday. This divine coincidence allows us to welcome everyone on the vigil of our feast day. Thus the readings of the Mass will be the special ones of St. James’ feast. The Hospitality Committee will also organize the reception after this Mass. If you would like to help at either reception, please contact Carol Sylvia (see below). Please mark both dates in your calendar and make an effort to be present. In the summer we have many other things on our minds, but these are two things which are worth "penciling in" so as to welcome our brothers & sisters in Christ. Where is Father Wilson this weekend? I am celebrating the 4 p.m. Mass @ St. Anne’s and concelebrating the 11 a.m. retirement Mass @ St. Anne’s. After each Mass I will have a meeting with the parishioners to discuss the topic of the name of our future parish. I will be bringing to them what we discussed here at our parish meeting on May 24: Some people felt that we should name the parish "Our Lady of Guadalupe parish @ St. James Church," (and naming the chapel for St. Anne & the hall "St. Hedwig’s Hospitality Center") so as to be welcoming to the Hispanics, who have been moved around to 4 places over the last 40 years. Others felt that a completely new name should be sought. Among the suggestions were "Our Lady of St. James," "Our Lady of Hope," "Our Lady of Peace," "Our Lady of Grace," "Our Lady of America," "Our Lady of the Americas," "Queen of America," "Queen of the Americas." Last Sunday at St. Anne’s many people supported "St. James," while others suggested "All Saints," "Mother Mary," "Mother of the Americas," and "St. Anne/St. James." Then at Division Street I spoke with the Hispanic and Polish parishioners. Many would like "Mary, Queen of the Americas," although many thought that Our Lady of Guadalupe would be the only saint forgotten about, because they did not understand (or I did not make clear enough) that only if we did something like "Our Lady of Guadalupe at St. James Church" would we name the chapel for St. Anne and the hall for St. Hedwig. So, there is still a lot of hurt out there. Here due to the loss of Father Ed and the whole issue of change. At St. Anne’s and St. Hedwig’s because they or their parents built the churches. At Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe because of fear of becoming second-class parishioners here. So, we all need to keep praying that Our Lord will help us to be open & loving to each other, to truly live out our call to be the Body of Christ in this little part of God’s world. Regardless of the name, St. James will continue to be honored here, with his statues on the lawn and on the baptismal font, in the painting in the vestibule of the chapel, and in the stained glass window over the organ (as well as in the windows of the Agony in the Garden, the Ascension, Pentecost and the Assumption). St. James is featured as is the history of the ministry of the church in our neighborhood. Please speak to Fr. Wilson, Deacon Larry (after Masses) or Carol Sylvia (afternoons @ the rectory) about buying a copy. It might make a good gift for Dads or grads or a keepsake to hand on to later generations. CATHOLIC CHARITIES APPEAL 2004 Thanks to all who have already submitted their donations or pledges for the 2004 Catholic Charities Appeal. The appeal continues until June 17 (Bunker Hill Day). We all remember the command the Americans received that day about waiting to "see the whites" of the British eyes. As we consider our donation, we’re mindful that the faces of the many people served by the appeal, the poor, the sick, the immigrant, the abused, all have the eyes of Christ in them. They look to us to see Christ’s eyes looking lovingly back at them. You are asked to mail your donation with the Appeal card to the rectory; put it through the mail slot; or put it in the collection. If you did not receive one in the mail, feel free to pick one up at the door of the Church. Thank you for your generosity to God’s people –Father RichFEAST OF ST.
