PARISH FINANCIAL COUNCIL REPORTS

The Parish Financial Council is preparing the financial report for the fiscal year July 2001 to June 2002. Members of the Parish Financial Council will give the report at each of the weekend Masses.

Although the weekly collections are reported on a monthly basis, the annual financial report also includes all the expenditures for the year.

The Parish Financial Council has determined that the parish needs to collect $3,000 in the first collection each week to meet all of the expenses. In past years when the financial report has been given, it was emphasized that the parish cannot depend upon money raising activities to run the parish. It also cannot depend upon special donations. This extra income needs to be put into savings for the emergencies that happen.

(Substantial amounts of money were withdrawn from savings to pay for many of the repairs done to the church over the last eight years. Special donations can replace some of this money.)

As the fiscal year has ended, we do not owe any money. We have paid all of our bills.

The recent work done on the church (painting the trim on all the church, putting new slate roofs on the side entrances of the church, and painting the interior side entrances) has been paid.

The following are the amounts collected for the Sundays of July:

Sunday, July 7 $ 2,450.43

Maintenance $1,128

Sunday, July 14 $ 2,017.33

Sunday, July 21 $ 2,314.25

Sunday, July 28 $ 2,355.84

You may notice that the fence on County Street has been broken. Part of the

fence was destroyed when a stolen car hit it when it was chased by the police.

The cost to repair the fence is $3,000. The Diocesan Insurance has given us a check for $ 2,000 because of our $1,000 deductible.

FR. ROSEMOND JOSEPH

called the parish on the Feast of St. James.

He wanted to wish all of the parish God’s special blessings on this special day. He was sorry that he couldn’t be with us.

Fr. Rosemond was calling from the Bronx. He was sent to the United States to preach for the missionary work of Haiti. He was assigned two parishes in the Bronx. He was going to preach in English. He said that he was going to try. (It was all of the English that we taught him.)

He will return to Haiti for the months of August and September. He will then go to Brazil for three years. His mother and family are going to really miss him.

FR. OSCAR

arrived on Tuesday, July 30. He will be with us for the months of August and September. Our parishioner, Carol Oliveira, will continue to teach him conversational English. (That means that he will be able to celebrate more Masses in English!

Fr. Oscar already knows what the rest of his stay will be like. He will celebrate Masses at Our Lady of Guadalupe on Division Street in New Bedford; he will continue to celebrate Masses in Hyannis and Nantucket where there are large Hispanic communities.

He will also celebrate Mass at St. Mary’s Cathedral where there has been an Hispanic community for the last several years.

WELCOME, FR. OSCAR
