IMPLEMENTING THE CHANGES

NORMS FOR RECEIVING COMMUNION

The slight bowing of the head is the recommended gesture before extending one’s hand or opening one’s mouth for the reception of Holy Communion. (Genuflection before receiving is not the norm that the Bishops’ Conference of our country has established.) It is important that this gesture of slightly bowing one’s head be done before extending the hand to receive Communion. Otherwise, the danger of the sacred Host falling from one’s hand could take place.

This gesture is an act of devotion is union with the worshipping community joined to celebrate Mass. It is a communal act. We need to keep in mind the communal aspect of each person receiving.

The New Bedford Catholic Guild for the Blind meets at Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus parish center six times a year. FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK

The Parish Financial Council presents the Financial Report for the Fiscal year of July 2002 to June 30 of 2003. (The complete report may be found on our parish Website.)

We ended the fiscal year in the black with $63,000. This is due to the sale of the convent to the Diocese for $100,000. The sale was completed in the fiscal year which is being reported. It is also due to bequests which amounted to $14,000. If we were to take away these two items, we would have ended in the red by $40,000.

The Parish Financial Council wishes to state again that we need $3,000 each week in our first collection (offertory collection) to meet all of our expenses for the entire fiscal year.

The extraordinary expenses for the above fiscal year were the painting of the side entrances of the church.

Thank you to all the parishioners for your generosity to your parish. Many parishes have undertaken a drive called "Stewardship".

Part of the drive is to encourage parishioners to tithe each week. There are so many parishioners who are already doing that and have been doing that for so many years. It would not be fair to those parishioners to undertake such a drive.

It is also very important for the parish to be aware of every aspect of the parish’s life including the financial. That is why every year a member of the Financial Council has reported on the Financial Report.

We are trying a new approach this year. We thought that it might have been too overbearing to go through the entire report so we are trying this approach this year.
