GOING TO COMMUNION: Please allow the Eucharistic ministers time to get to their positions before coming forward to receive the Eucharist. This will help to make this important moment in the Mass (the highlight of our week) less chaotic and more prayerful. Thank you for your cooperation.

FEELING A COLD COMING ON?? If you are aware of any germ you may be carrying, please decline receiving from the Chalice until you are feeling better. Whether we’re receiving the Host or drinking from the Chalice, we are receiving All of the Body and Blood of Christ. Please be considerate of your brothers and sisters in the Lord.

LECTORS will have a meeting on Wednesday, September 1 at 7 p.m. in the rectory.

CCD TEACHERS have an important meeting on Tuesday night here at 7 p.m. The diocese, in conformity to the National Review Board’s policy, has to CORI all volunteers with children again this year, so as to make certain that no one has committed crimes since the last CORI check. To make the process much easier, Mrs. Mary Worden, our Religious Education Director, went to a training by the diocese and she will conduct the informational meeting. As such, please make every effort to come to this meeting.

FIRST SUNDAY EUCHARISTIC ADORATION: Next Sunday, beginning after the 11:30 Mass and continuing ‘til 5 p.m. in the chapel. From 4 to 5 p.m. there will be a Holy Hour for Vocations, ending with Benediction.

REGISTRATION FOR CCD – Registration for this year’s classes will be held the weekends of Sept. 4/5 and 11/12 after the Masses. Classes will begin the week of September 19. Please mark your calendars. Passing on the faith is such a vital task, beginning with parents and Godparents, and then assisted by our dedicated Religious Education teachers.

BISHOP COLEMAN TO VISIT our parish on Sunday, September 26. He will celebrate the 10 a.m. Mass and install Father Wilson as pastor. The Mass will reflect our multiethnic community and be followed by a reception. If you would like to help organize this reception and/or Deacon Karl’s farewell next Sunday, please come to a meeting this Thursday at 6 p.m. in the rectory.

RENEW: Please save in your calendars Saturday, September 25, from 9 a.m. to 2:30.. That day the Diocesan RENEW office, together with other diocesan agencies, is preparing a day on Social Justice. It will be held at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 4256 Acushnet Ave., in the North End, and will include faith sharing, presentations, Mass and lunch.

Deacon Karl Bissinger will be heading back to Rome soon to continue his studies. To say goodbye we’ll have a reception for him next Sunday after the 10 a.m. Mass in the basement. Even if you go to another Mass, please drop by around 11 a.m. to wish him well. We look forward to his ordination next summer & will keep him in our prayers.

 

BABY SUPPLIES NEEDED: Project PALM (Protect all the Little Munchkins) is looking for your help in assisting new mothers and newborns. PALM was founded by Bishop Stang Seniors Allysa Piché & Matthew Lecuyer (son of Mrs. Lecuyer, formerly of St. James/St. John School). Donations can be dropped off in marked boxes in the back of the church ‘til Sept. 12. The following new, unused items are needed: baby soap & shampoo, baby wipes, bibs, blankets, booties, bottles, disposable diapers, diaper rash ointment, lotions, onesies, pacifiers, socks, and washcloths. Please do not give baby food, formula or perishable food items. Thank you for your collaboration!

 

Eucharistic Adoration This Week – On Tuesday, From 7 to 9 p.m. we will have Eucharistic Adoration, with the Rosary prayed at 7:20, a talk at 8 p.m., Night Prayer & Benediction at 8:45 and Confessions during the evening. On First Friday there will be a Holy Hour in Spanish from 7 to 8 p.m.

 

FUNDRAISING DINNER FOR UIA will be held on Saturday, Sept. 18 from 6 to 11 p.m. at Mt. Carmel Auditorium. Soup, Caciola, and chicken will be served family style. Tickets at $15 for adults and $7 for kids 10 & under and may be purchased at the rectory. If you would like to bake a dessert or provide an item for the raffle table, please feel free to contact Suzanne Braga at Suzannebee@aol.com . Remember that Father Correia was one of the founders of UIA and would like us to keep involved in it.

 

YOUTH GROUP will meet on Thursday, Sept. 9 at 7:45. The biweekly meetings consist of a mixture of prayer, sharing and fun. All middle & high schoolers welcome. We will have a barbeque afternoon to close out the summer Sunday, Sept. 12 here, from 1 to 5 p.m. Please feel free to check it out.

 

COVE ST. NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday at "Your Girl Friday," 97 Cove St. All are welcome to come and meet with city officials, police and neighborhood leaders to discuss your concerns about the neighborhood. Our parishioner Loretta Bourque will welcome you.

 

HOSPICE VOLUNTEERS: Community Nurse & Hospice Care invites compassionate individuals to be a part of their volunteer team. Training sessions are Mondays & Wednesdays, beginning Sept. 8 and concluding Oct. 13. They’re held 5:30-7:30 at 62 Center St., Fairhaven. For more info, call JoAnn Richard at 999-3400.

 

FARMERS’ MARKET on Clasky Common continues every Saturday, rain or shine, from now ‘til October 30th. The common is located on Purchase Street, 3 blocks north of Glaser Glass. The market is open 9 a.m.-1 p.m. and educational or entertainment programs are offered along with the produce. Cash and EBT cards are accepted.

 

ADOPTION INFO SESSION will provided by Catholic Social Services (CSS) on Tuesday, Sept. 14 from 7 to 9 p.m. at CSS, 1600 Bay St., Fall River. This session will be for all persons interested in adopting a domestic newborn or a child born outside of the USA. Please call CSS at 674-4681 for info & directions. There is no charge for the session.

 

NONVIOLENT COMMUNICATION: Learn how to express yourself with the language of compassion in a one day workshop Saturday, Sept. 11 from 9:30 to 5 at the First Congregational Church, Center & William Sts., Fairhaven. A day remembered for its extreme violence is now your opportunity to master the simple technique of authentic communication that will change your life, transform your relationships and create an environment of peace. PIZZA, PIPES & PONIES, A fundraiser to benefit the pipe organ fund at our cathedral in Fall River will be held at the Fall River Carousel (next to Battleship Cove) Friday, Sept. 17 from 6 to 9 p.m. There will be an opportunity to sponsor an organ pipe as well as a raffle, food, photos & carousel rides. CENTENNIAL OF THE DIOCESE OF FALL RIVER

CENTENNIAL ROSARY CELEBRATION

Please save in your calendar Monday, October 11 (Columbus Day). That day the Diocese will have the closing ceremony of its Centennial, with a giant Rosary Celebration out at LaSalette in Attleboro. The celebration will begin with a Concert of Praise at 12:15, followed by a banner procession, the Rosary led by over 50 people from around the diocese, Eucharistic Adoration and Benediction, and some words from our shepherd, Bishop George Coleman. It should be a great day for the entire family. We will hire buses so as to travel together from here. So please save the date!

HISTORY BOOK OF THE DIOCESE

"Bearing Fruit by Streams of Waters," the newly published history of the Diocese of Fall River, is on sale in the rectory for $20. This limited addition book begins with the work of the church in our area before the 1904 founding of the diocese and traces the various developments over the past century. If you would like to buy a copy, please speak to one of the priests or deacons (after Masses) or Carol Sylvia or Ana Medina (at the rectory). It might make a good gift or a keepsake to hand on to later generations.

 

ENGLISH CLASS has begun. Nancy Medeiros is offering it Wednesdays from 7 to 9 p.m. in the rectory. It is open to anyone who would like to improve their English. Nancy can speak Spanish and Portuguese, so people of either background should have no problem. For more info, either to be a student or to help teaching, please contact Nancy at 993-9612.

 

ESL CLASSES offered by Catholic Social Services will begin in the fall. Registration will be held on Sept.9 from 1 to 7 p.m. at the Sister Anne Marie Phillips Learning Center, corner of Delano & South Second Sts. Classes will be assigned on that day in local locations. If you cannot go that day, please call Sheila Sullivan at 508-997-7337 on any Thursday to arrange for registration.

FIESTA ESPIRITUAL: This is a project the Spanish Evangelization team carries out of bringing the message of the Gospel to people’s homes. It is not a "fiesta" in the sense of partying, but a joyful evening of prayer and reflection on the Gospel message. If you would like to try out a little Spanish, please feel free to come this Saturday at 6:30 to the home of Grace Cardoza (511 Kirby St.).

 

Farewell to Father Ramón as he heads off to his new assignment in the Diocese of Arlington, VA. A collation to say goodbye will be held this Sunday at 12:30 p.m.
