ST. JAMES HEALTH CARE MINISTRY

A receptacle for used eye glasses has been placed in the gathering area of the church near the parish library. It is the courtesy of the Lion’s Club. Hundreds of thousands of people in the third world countries have been serviced with glasses through the efforts of the Lions.

We are also collecting hearing aides, which can be overhauled and reassembled for distribution to poor people in our country. Join the Health Care Committee in supporting this worthwhile cause.

ST. JAMES EDUCATION COMMITEE

ST. JAMES LENDING LIBRARY

has acquired several new books and videos for the children of our parish. The animated videos are titled: "The Day the Sun Danced";

"Juan Diego, Messenger of Guadalupe"; "Bernadette , Princess of Lourdes"; and "My Secret Friend- A Guardian Angel Story".

Please be sure to write your name and phone number in the take out book and return videos the next week. (Books can be signed out for two weeks.) No renewals on videos please.

The Lending Library can be a valuable resource for our parish when used responsibly.

The education Committee has noted the loss of many books and nearly all of the library’s video’s over the past three years due to people forgetting to return them or not signing them out. Please help us to serve our parish better by treating our library like any other library. If anyone would like to make a cash donation to purchase more videos or new catholic books, please contact Kathleen Massoud: 993-7325

The Parish Financial Council

wishes to report on the work that has been done on the front of the church. Much time has gone by because it was difficult to get the company to return to our church.

The company worked on the church this past week. They found that there were many holes around the stained glass window. Those holes were filled with a special compond.

It is hoped that this will resolve the problem with the leaks in the center entrance of the church.

The inside entrance will now be painted in a temporary way to see whether our problem with leaks is resolved.

VOCATIONS: EVERYBODY’S BUSINESS

These are the opening words of the Bishop’s Pastoral Letter on vocations that was issued during the Holy Year 2000. Our parish has been privileged to know so many newly ordained priests who have spent some time with us or have walked the journey of preparation with us.

Fr. Thomas Washburn, O.F.M., Fr. Oscar, and now Deacon Rosemond Joseph have helped us to appreciate the vocation to the priesthood and religious life.

Our Vocations Committee once again invites parishioners to pray for vocations during the month of October. A calendar will be placed on the boards at the side entrance and in the gathering area of the church. Parishioners are invited to select one day of the month to pray for vocations in any way. Your prayer on that designated day might include sacrifices, fasting, a rosary , times of silence or any other way of communicating to God about the need for more vocations. Please write your name on the day that you would like to pray. The Committee hopes that every day of the month will be filled with names so that we can continue to lift our prayer to God for vocations,

Pictures of Rosemond Joseph will be shown near the calendars along with pictures of other vocations.

WELCOME

ROSEMOND JOSEPH
