RELIGIOUS EDUCATION (CCD) – Today (Sunday) at the 10 a.m. Mass we will be blessing our catechists as they prepare to begin teaching our youth next week. If you have not yet registered for class, please speak with Mrs. Worden after Mass or call the rectory during the week. Please remember that what the catechists teach needs to be reinforced by parents by prayer together as a family at home and at church. May the Lord bless us all in transmitting the gift of faith to our young people.

BISHOP COLEMAN WILL VISIT our parish on Next Sunday, September 26. He will celebrate the 10 a.m. Mass and install Father Wilson as pastor. While we will have the regular schedule of Masses, we encourage as many parishioners as possible to come to the 10 a.m. Mass and the reception that will follow in the hall.

RENEW: Please come next Saturday, September 25, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 to Our Lady of Fatima Church, 4256 Acushnet Ave., in the North End. That day the Diocesan RENEW office, together with other diocesan agencies, will put on a day on Social Justice. It will include faith sharing, presentations, Mass and lunch. Please let Janice Lord or Father Wilson whether you are going so that the correct number of lunches will be ready.

FESTIVAL COMMITTEE will meet this Monday at 7:30 in the rectory. New members are welcome as well as old as we look over how this summer’s festival went and look forward to the Fall. We also have received the donation of 2 Patriots’ tickets and will discuss how to raise money with them.

FUNDRAISING DINNER FOR UIA will be held tonight (Saturday) from 6 to 11 p.m. at Mt. Carmel Auditorium. Soup, Caciola, and chicken will be served family style. Tickets at $15 for adults and $7 for kids 10 & under and may be purchased at the door.

YOUTH GROUP will meet at 7:40 this Thursday night in the parish hall. Our biweekly Thursday night meetings combine fun with prayer and knowledge of our faith. All youth in middle and high school are welcome.

CHOIR REHEARSAL is at 7 p.m. Tuesdays in the Church (entering from the Fair St. parking lot door). New members are most welcome!

Eucharistic Adoration: Now on Wednesdays: From 7 to 9 p.m. we will have Eucharistic Adoration, with the Rosary prayed at 7:20, a talk at 8 p.m., Night Prayer & Benediction at 8:45 and Confessions during the evening. Enter the Church from the Fair Street Parking lot.

Annual Penny Sale will take place Monday, Nov. 1 in the church hall.  Mark your calendar!  If you are doing any Fall cleaning, please put aside articles you want to give for the White Elephant table. Dates for drop off will be given at a later date in the bulletin. Due to insurance regulations we are not able to accept electrical items of any sort that have been used. We won't be selling books, shoes or clothing.

PAIN MANAGEMENT RESOURCE FAIR: The Diocesan Health Facilities will be hosting this fair at White’s of Westport on September 29 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Open to the public & free of charge, there will be medical and pharmaceutical exhibits, speakers discussing methods of pain relief and pain management, and educational programs for nurses, physicians and the community. BOYS C.Y.O. BASKETBALL TRYOUTS: Tryouts for the St. James/St. John Boys Junior "A" division basketball team will be held today (Sunday) from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Fairhaven Recreation Center, behind Stop & Shop on Route 6 in Fairhaven. Tryouts are open to all male parishioners in the 7^th or 8^th grade who were born on or after January 1, 1991. The 2004-2005 season will begin in November and will run through March. WEDDING ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION: Bishop Coleman will celebrate a special Mass of thanksgiving for couples observing significant wedding anniversaries (including first year) during 2004. This celebration will take place on Sunday, Nov. 7 at 3 p.m. at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Fall River. If you would like an invitation, please contact Fr. GOING TO COMMUNION: Please allow the Eucharistic ministers time to get to their positions before coming forward to receive the Eucharist. This will help to make this important moment in the Mass (the highlight of our week) less chaotic and more prayerful. Thank you for your cooperation.

MARRIAGE ENCOUNTER: An experience for building communication, creating intimacy, self esteem and enriching the values of marriage, family and faith. This program is for couples who believe they have a good marriage but desire a deeper understanding, a richer communication, a better quality and more spirituality in their marriage. BIBLE STUDY: THE GOSPEL OF LUKE: Please join us as we learn more about the Bible, the life of Jesus, and how to pray with the Scriptures. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR HOSPICE PROGRAM: Southcoast Hospice is seeking volunteers in the New Bedford and surrounding areas to help make a difference in the lives of those they serve. If you can commit to giving our patients a few hours each week and if you have your own transportation, we would like to talk to you about our training and support network. FARMERS’ MARKET on Clasky Common continues every Saturday, rain or shine, from now ‘til October 30^th. The common is located on Purchase Street, 3 blocks north of Glaser Glass. CENTENNIAL OF THE DIOCESE OF FALL RIVER: CENTENNIAL ROSARY CELEBRATION Please save in your calendar Monday, October 11 (Columbus Day). That day the Diocese will have the closing ceremony of its Centennial, with a giant Rosary Celebration out at LaSalette in Attleboro. The celebration will begin with a Concert of Praise at 12:15, followed by a banner procession at 1 p.m., the Rosary led by over 50 people from around the diocese praying the Luminous Mysteries, Eucharistic Adoration and Benediction, and some words from our shepherd, Bishop George Coleman. A large choir made up of representatives from throughout the diocese will lead us in songs of praise and thanksgiving. The event will conclude at 4 p.m. It should be a great day for the entire family. We will hire buses so as to travel together from here.

ENGLISH CLASS has begun. Nancy Medeiros is offering it Wednesdays from 7 to 9 p.m. in the rectory. It is open to anyone who would like to improve their English. AFTERNOON WITH THE FOCOLARE: The Focolare Movement grew out of the experience of some Catholic Italians who prayed for unity during World War II. The Focolare pray and work for unity within the Catholic Church, among Christians, and with non-Christians. Some of our parishioners are involved in the Focolare. They are offering an afternoon with the Focolare Sunday, Sept. 26 at the home of Fiorella Butera & family, 430 Whiting St., Hanover, 02339. VISITA DEL OBISPO COLEMAN: Nuestro Obispo vendrá el Domingo que viene, el 26 de septiembre, para celebrar la Misa de las 10 y instalar P. Wilson como nuestro párroco. La Misa sera bilingue y tendremos una convivencia despues de la Misa (Tendremos también la Misa a las 11:30 para los que no pueden ir a las 10, pero esperamos que la mayoría de la gente venga a la de las 10 a.m.).

EL COMITE DE LAS FIESTAS se reunirá este Lunes a las 7:30 en la rectoria. Hablaremos sobre como estaba la fiesta parroquial en agosto y veremos que haremos en el otoño para recaudar fondos para la parroquia. También un señor donó 2 entradas a los Patriots y veremos como podemos rifarlas. Todos estan bienvenidos.

Tendremos la "Penny Sale" el Lunes, 1 de noviembre en el salon parroquial. Por favor, reserva la fecha en tu calendario. Si estás limpiando tu casa, por favor aparta cosas que podemos vender en la mesa "White Elephant." Mas adelante pondremos información en el boletín sobre cuando puedes traer esas cosas aquí. A causa de las reglas de las compañías de seguros, no podemos aceptar cosas electricas usadas. También no vendemos libros, zapatos o ropa.

EQUIPO DE EVANGELIZACION: Van a las casas par hacer Fiestas Espirituales y luego tienen clases de evangelización para ayudar a familias para que crezcan en la fe. MISA DIOCESANA PARA ANIVERSARIOS: El Obispo Coleman celebrará una Misa especial para matrimonies casados por la Iglesia que estan observando aniversarios (incluso el 1º) especiales durante 2004 el Domingo, 7 de noviembre a las 3 p.m. en la Catedral en Fall River. CLASES DE BAUTISMO: Como siempre, las clases en preparación para el bautismo se dan los 2os y 3er domingos de mes, despues de la Misa de las 11:30.

TALLER DE RENACER: El apostolado hispano, con los Servicios Sociales Catolicos, ha organizado un dia con el enfoque sobre la Justicia Social este Sábado, 25 de septiembre, de 9 a 2:30 en la Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de Fatima, 4256 Acushnet Ave., en el norte de New Bedford. Padre Richard y Hna. Aída han estado trabajando con José Torres y Carlos Wharton para programar este dia. Habrá Misa, almuerzo, talleres de oración y presentaciones sobre la Justicia Social. Por favor, di a Padre Wilson si vas a ir para que tengan suficiente comida para el almuerzo.

Adoración Eucaristica Cada Miercoles (Nuevo dia) – De 7 a 9 p.m. tenemos Adoración Eucaristica, con el rosario a las 7:20, una charla a las 8 p.m., Oración de la Noche y Bendicción Eucaristica a las 8:45 y Confesiones durante todo esto.

MANIFESTACION PRO-VIDA, empezando en el centro de Boston en el "Boston Common" se habrá el domingo, 3 de octubre al mediodia. El Arzobispo Sean O’Malley estará allá con varios otros lideres. CUANDO VAS A LA COMUNION, por favor espera hasta que los ministros de la Comunión lleguen a sus lugares. Así este momento importante de la Misa (el momento mas importante de nuestra semana) no sería caotica, sino un momento de oración. Gracias por tu colaboración.

CENTENARIO DE LA DIÓCESIS de Fall river: CELEBRACIÓN CENTENARIA del ROSARIO En tu calendario reserva el lunes, 11 de octubre (día de Colón, el dia antes del Dia de la Raza). Ese día la diócesis tendrá la ceremonia de cierre de su centenario, con una gran celebración del Rosario en LaSalette en Attleboro. La celebración comenzará con un concierto de alabanzas (en ingles, español y portugues) a las 12:15, seguido por una procesión, el rosario multilingue, Adoración y Bendición de la Eucharistía, y algunas palabras de nuestro obispo, Monseñor George Coleman. Sería un gran día para la familia entera. Tendremos autobuses/guaguas para viajar juntos de aquí. ¡Ponlo en tu calendario, por favor!

PROGRAMA PARA ADOLESCENTES EN LUTO: Hay un programa en ingles para los que tienen 13-19 años y han perdido un ser querido. FERIA DE INFORMACION SOBRE EL DOLOR: La Diócesis de Fall River está ofreciendo una feria con información sobre como se puede minimizar el dolor para los enfermos y moribundos.
