ABSENTEE BALLOT APPLICATION DRIVE As the US Bishops remind us, "In the Catholic Tradition, responsible citizenship is a virtue; participation is a moral obligation. We urge you to vote in the upcoming elections." If you are not able to go to the polls on Nov. 3^rd, please take the time to fill out an absentee ballot application.

PASTORAL PLANNING: This coming week the members of our pastoral and finance councils will be taking part in a pastoral planning assembly in our deanery. These assemblies are being held with our bishop throughout the diocese so as to learn more about the church in our country, the local church which is the diocese, our parish and the other parishes in our deanery. We ask your prayers that we might come to a deeper awareness of who we are as communities of faith and what we might become as we work together to "build a stronger church."

C.Y.O. BASKETBALL: There will be open tryouts for the St. James/St. John CYO Boys & Girls basketball teams on Monday, October 18 at Friends Academy (1088 Tucker Road) in Dartmouth. Girls will tryout from 6 to 7 p.m., boys from 7 to 8 p.m. This is a very competitive league & we’re looking for experienced players. There will be at least 1 weekday practice (most likely Monday nights) and at least 1 game per week (most likely on Sundays). The season runs from Mid-November to February/March. Any child born between January 1, 1993 and December 31, 1994 is invited to attend.

PRACTICE FOR NEW ALTAR SERVERS – Thursday at 4:30 in the church. New servers welcome.

CHOIR REHEARSAL is at 7:15 p.m. Tuesdays in the Church (entering from the Fair St. parking lot door). New members are welcome!

HAVING FUN & FUNDRAISING: We would like to discuss with the parishioners what we should be doing in terms of fundraising so as to pay for the expenses of the parish and how to do it in as enjoyable manner as possible. We will have a General Fundraising Meeting on Wednesday, October 27 at 7 p.m. in the Hall. At that time we will discuss whether we should have the festival next year, how we should revamp it to make it more effective (both in terms of fundraising and in terms of making it a fun event which attracts people), and what other activities we could be doing to support the parish. This meeting is open to everyone. Please note it in your calendars. Thank you.

Annual Penny Sale will take place Monday, Nov. 1 in the church hall.  Mark your calendar! Articles for the White Elephant table and new gift items may be left at the rectory. Please mark them "W.E." or "New." Monetary donations are always appreciated as they help in the purchase of new gifts for the tables. Due to insurance regulations we are not able to accept electrical items of any sort that have been used. We won't be selling books, shoes or clothing. Our gift baskets raffle is very popular. ECUMENICAL CELEBRATION: 5^th Anniversary of the Lutheran/Catholic Joint Declaration will be celebrated on Sunday, October 31 at 4 p.m. at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Wayland with Archbishop Sean O’Malley & Lutheran Bishop Margaret Payne. Choirs from both religions will be sing. There will be a reception afterwards. If you are interested in going as a group, please speak to Fr. Wilson.

COURAGE is a group for people dealing with same-sex attractions while trying to live chastely. Founded by Fr. John Harvey, OSFS, the group is faithful to the Church’s teachings on human sexuality. The next meeting is scheduled for Sunday, October 24 at the rectory. All are welcome.

CITIZENSHIP & IMMIGRATION WORKSHOP will be held on Monday, October 18^th at the Cape Cod Irish Village in West Yarmouth (Cape Cod). Experts on immigration & citizenship will help attendees to answer any questions regarding these issues. The workshop will begin at 6 p.m. and is open to immigrants from any country. FARMERS’ MARKET on Clasky Common continues every Saturday, rain or shine, from now ‘til October 30^th. The common is located on Purchase Street, 3 blocks north of Glaser Glass. EVENING FOR FAMILY & FRIENDS WITH THE FOCOLARE HERE on Friday, October 29 from 7 to 9 p.m. The Focolare Movement, founded in Trent, Italy after WWII, is present today in 182 nations & reaches over 5 million people. Focolare means "hearth" or "family fireside." Chiara Lubich, along with a small group of friends, realized that God is the only ideal worth living for and as a result they focused their lives on the Gospel. Many others followed. Their goal became one of striving towards the fulfillment of Jesus’ prayer to the Father, "May they all be one" (John 17:21). A spirituality of unity came to life and gave rise to a movement of spiritual and social renewal. Please feel welcome to come to spend an evening of friendship with this Catholic movement. DIOCESAN DIVORCED & SEPARATED SUPPORT GROUP meets at the Family Life Center, 500 Slocum Rd., N. Dartmouth from 7 to 9 p.m. on the Second & Last Mondays of each month. The next topic is "Rebuilding After Divorce," offered on October 25. A video from Notre Dame University will be shown, followed by small group discussions. YOUTH GROUP On Sunday, October 24 we will be going to the Youth Convention at Bishop Connolly H.S. in Fall River, leaving from here after the 10 a.m. Mass (approx. 11 a.m.). The Convention’s theme is "Living Justice, Proclaiming Peace." The convention has been planned by teams of adults & teens from throughout the diocese. The keynote speaker is Tony Bellizzi, a great speaker from Long Island, NY. The music will be provided by Bernie Choiniere of St. Mary’s LifeTeen in Foxboro. There will be various workshops dealing with issues tied to justice & peace. Teens can choose which workshops they wish to attend. Bishop Coleman will greet the youth at the beginning of the day and the convention will end with Mass. Pizza will be served during a mid-afternoon break. If you would like to attend, please contact Fr. Wilson. We will have a Family Halloween Party on Friday, October 29 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the old St. Hedwig/Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe hall (because the hall here will be being prepared for the Penny Sale on November 1^st). This Thursday night we will meet in the Fair St. parking lot at approx. 7:30 p.m. (after the 7 p.m. Mass) and then head over to the old church to decorate it. All youth are welcome.

ENGLISH CLASS has begun. Nancy Medeiros is offering it Wednesdays from 7 to 9 p.m. in the rectory. It is open to anyone who would like to improve their English. Nancy can speak Spanish and Portuguese, so people of either background should have no problem. For more info, either to be a student or to help teaching, please contact Nancy at 993-9612. CUANDO VAYAS A RECIBIR LA COMUNION, por favor espera hasta que los ministros de la Comunión se encuentren en el lugar en donde estarán dando la Comunión. Este es un momento muy importante en el que todos podemos ayudar a que haya orden, silencio y devoción.

R.IC.A. es el proceso de clases para preparar adultos que no han recibido el bautismo o la 1ª Comunión o la Confirmación o que eran de otra religion y ahora quieren hacerse catolicos. Tenemos estas clases los domingos a las 10 a.m. en el salón parroquial. Si no pudiste venir hoy, por favor ven el Domingo próximo.

CLASES PARA NUEVOS MONAGUILLOS – Jueves a las 4:30 p.m. en la iglesia.

LAS FIESTAS DEL VERANO: Queremos hablar con los feligreses sobre el futuro de las fiestas del verano (¿debemos tenerlas? ¿Debemos cambiarlas?) y sobre que otras cosas podemos hacer para recaudar fondos de un modo divertido. Tendremos una Reunión General de la Parroquia para hablar de como podemos recaudar fondos mientras hacemos cosas divertidas para la gente. Tendremos la reunión el miercoles, 27 de octubre a las 7 p.m Todos estan bienvenidos a venir y compartir ideas y comprometerse. Por favor, ponlo en tu calendario.

Tendremos la "Penny Sale" el Lunes, 1 de noviembre en el salon parroquial. Por favor, reserva la fecha en tu calendario. Si estás limpiando tu casa, por favor aparta cosas que podemos vender en la mesa "White Elephant." Puedes traer esas cosas viejas (marca "WE" en la caja) o nuevas (Marca "New" en la caja) a la rectoria. Tambien podemos aceptar dinero, para luego comprar los regalos. A causa de las reglas de las compañías de seguros, no podemos aceptar cosas electricas usadas. También no vendemos libros, zapatos o ropa. Necesitamos voluntarios y todos los que pueden ayudar estan bienvenidos. GRUPO DE JOVENES El Domingo, 24 de octubre iremos al Congreso de Jovenes en Fall River. Saldremos de aquí a las 11 a.m. El Congreso tendrá Misa, una visita del Obispo, talleres para jovenes y pizza. Si quieres ir, por favor habla con Julio, Elisa, Tammy o el padre. El Viernes, 29 de octubre de 6 a 9 p.m. tendremos la fiesta familiar de Halloween en la Antigua Guadalupe (ya que el salon aquí estará ocupado por la preparación para el Penny Sale). Este Jueves iremos a la Antigua Guadalupe despues de la Misa de las 7 aquí para decorar el salón para la fiesta.

EQUIPO DE EVANGELIZACION: Van a las casas par hacer Fiestas Espirituales y luego tienen clases de evangelización para ayudar a familias para que crezcan en la fe. Si quieres que vengan a tu casa, habla con Santos & Judith Vazquez (992-3595), Marita Maciel (991-2275), Tere (774-202-3014) o Laura (984-7976) o Rallito. La proxima fiesta espiritual se hará en la casa de Andrea Pajón el Sábado, 30 de octubre a las 6:30 p.m.

CLASES DE BAUTISMO: Como siempre, las clases en preparación para el bautismo se dan los 2os y 3er domingos de mes, despues de la Misa de las 11:30.

Adoración Eucaristica Cada Miercoles (Nuevo dia) – De 7 a 9 p.m. tenemos Adoración Eucaristica, con el rosario a las 7:20, una charla a las 8 p.m., Oración de la Noche y Bendicción Eucaristica a las 8:45. El padre está disponible para confesar durante la adoración.

El ENSAYO del CORO es a las 6:30 P.M. los martes en la iglesia. ¡Los nuevos miembros son bienvenidos!

MERCADO DE FRUTAS Y VERDURAS, el "Farmers’ Market," se hace cada Sábado de 9 a.m. a 1 p.m. en Clasky Common, Purchase Street (3 bloques al norte de Glaser Glass). Se puede comprar con dinero o tarjetas de EBT.

PLANEAMIENTO PASTORAL: Esta semana los miembros de nuestros consejos pastorales y de las finanzas participarán en una asamblea de planeamiento pastoral en nuestro decanato. Están celebrando estas asambleas con nuestro obispo a lo largo de la diócesis para aprender más sobre la iglesia en nuestro país, la iglesia local que es la diócesis, nuestra parroquia y las otras parroquias en nuestro decanato. Pedimos sus oraciones para que lleguemos a un conocimiento más profundo de quiénes somos como las comunidades de la fe y de lo que debemos hacer mientras que trabajamos juntos "para construir una iglesia más sólida."

BASKETBALL PARA NIÑOS & NIÑAS: Habrá "tryouts" abiertos para los St. James/St. John Equipos de baloncesto para los muchachos y para las muchachas el lunes, 18 de octubre en Friends Academy (1088 Tucker Road) en Dartmouth. Las muchachas tendrán el tryout a partir de las 6 hasta las 7 P.M., los muchachos a partir de las 7 hasta las 8 P.M.. Esto es una liga muy competitiva y estamos buscando a jugadores con experiencia. NOCHE CON EL MOVIMIENTO FOCOLARE AQUI el Viernes, 29 de octubre de 7 a 9 p.m. El movimiento Focolare fue fundado en Trento, Italia despues de la Segunda Guerra Mundial. Está presente en 182 naciones y tiene mas de 5 millones de miembros. Focolare significa "lugar con fuego." Chiara Lubich, junto con un pequeño grupo de amigas, se dio cuenta que Dios es el unico ideal por el cual vale la pena vivir y como resultado centraron su vida en el Evangelio. Muchos otros las seguieron. Se volvió su objetivo el esfuerzo de cumplir la oración de Jesus al Padre: "Que todos sean uno" (Juan 17, 21). Nació la espiritualidad de la unidad y creó un movimiento espiritual y de renovación social. Todos estan bienvenidos a pasar una noche de amistad con este movimiento catolico. "COURAGE" es un grupo para la gente que lucha con atracciones hacia el mismo sexo. Este grupo católico fue establecido por el Padre John Harvey, OSFS, para ayudar a estas personas para que vivieran la castidad, según la ley de Dios.
