HAVING FUN & FUNDRAISING: We would like to discuss with the parishioners what we should be doing in terms of fundraising so as to pay for the expenses of the parish and how to do it in as enjoyable manner as possible. We will have a General Fundraising Meeting on Wednesday, October 27 at 7 p.m. in the Hall. At that time we will discuss whether we should have the festival next year, how we should revamp it to make it more effective (both in terms of fundraising and in terms of making it a fun event which attracts people), and what other activities we could be doing to support the parish. Annual Penny Sale will take place Monday, Nov. 1 in the church hall. Mark your calendar! Articles for the White Elephant table and new gift items may be left at the rectory. Please mark them "W.E." or "New." Monetary donations are always appreciated as they help in the purchase of new gifts for the tables. Due to insurance regulations we are not able to accept electrical items of any sort that have been used. We won't be selling books, shoes or clothing. Our gift baskets raffle is very popular. FAMILY HALLOWEEN CELEBRATION: this Friday, from 6 to 9 p.m., at the old St.Hedwig/Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe parish hall, organized by the Youth Group. We will have a costume contest, other games, food and candy. Admission is $3. Please come and have some fun together.

ROSARY DURING THE MONTH OF OCTOBER: Mondays & Thursdays at 6:30 p.m. in Church. On Sunday the rosary will be prayed at the home of Victoria Vega (35 Whitman St.) at 5 p.m. On Wednesday it will be prayed at the home of Naim Benavente. On Thursday it will be prayed at the home of Peter & Tammy Rivet (62 Hussey St.) at 7 p.m.. ECUMENICAL CELEBRATION: 5th Anniversary of the Lutheran/Catholic Joint Declaration will be celebrated on Sunday, October 31 at 4 p.m. at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Wayland with Archbishop Sean O’Malley & Lutheran Bishop Margaret Payne. Choirs from both religions will be sing. There will be a reception afterwards. We will leave from the Fair St. parking lot at 2:30 p.m.
COURAGE is a group for people dealing with same-sex attractions while trying to live chastely. Founded by Fr. John Harvey, OSFS, the group is faithful to the Church’s teachings on human sexuality. The next meeting is tonight (Sunday) at 7 p.m. in the rectory. All are welcome.
FEASTS OF ALL SAINTS & ALL SOULS: Monday, November 1 we will have Mass for All Saints at 9 a.m. (English) and 6 p.m. (Bilingual). At the 9 a.m. Mass there will be a pageant of the saints by the homeschool children’s group. The collection will be for the work of our St. Vincent de Paul society with the poor. Tuesday, November 2 we will have Masses for All Souls at 9 a.m. (English), 5:30 (English) and 7 p.m. (Spanish). Please return your All Souls envelopes with the names of your deceased loved ones, whom we will remember at those Masses and throughout November.

GATE OF HEAVEN PARISH, SOUTH BOSTON will have an 140th anniversary celebration and 125th anniversary celebration of its parish school on Saturday, November 6 with a special Mass at 5 p.m., followed by a reception and dinner at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center (with shuttle service from the church). A Woman's Concern is opening a new pregnancy health center for the South Coast/Fall River region. Our next step in opening this center is to host a Heart for Life Chowderfest event for the entire Christian community, and we know many will want to participate. You, your friends, and family are invited to our Chowderfest on Saturday, November 13th from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. hosted by Calvary Temple Assembly of God, 4321 North Main Street, Fall River. Before opening the center, a minimum of volunteers, staff and monthly support partners must be achieved. ST. MARY’S EDUCATION FUND will have its Fall Scholarship Dinner at White’s of Westport on Thursday, October 28. The proceed will assist the diocese in meeting the ever-increasing demand for "need-based" scholarships for students wishing to attend one of the 26 Catholic elementary & middle schools in the diocese (including our own). This year alone, due to the efforts and generosity of hundreds of volunteers and contributors, the St. Mary’s Education Fund has awarded "need-based" scholarships to more than 690 children enabling them to attend the Catholic school of their choice. T.V. MASS on Channel 6 (and 87.7FM radio) has been changed from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Sundays. The Mass is a service of the Diocese of Fall River.
EVENING FOR FAMILY & FRIENDS WITH THE FOCOLARE HERE on Friday, October 29 from 7 to 9 p.m. The Focolare Movement, founded in Trent, Italy after WWII, is present today in 182 nations & reaches over 5 million people. Focolare means "hearth" or "family fireside." Chiara Lubich, along with a small group of friends, realized that God is the only ideal worth living for and as a result they focused their lives on the Gospel. Many others followed. Their goal became one of striving towards the fulfillment of Jesus’ prayer to the Father, "May they all be one" (John 17:21). A spirituality of unity came to life and gave rise to a movement of spiritual and social renewal. Please feel welcome to come to spend an evening of friendship with this Catholic movement. PRO-LIFE AWARDS BANQUET: Bishop Coleman will bestow the 2004 John Cardinal O’Connor Award to Madeleine Lavoie, in recognition of her decades of dedicated service to the pro-life mission of the Church. The speaker will be Cathy Cleaver Ruse, the director of planning and information for the US Conference of Catholic Bishops. The tickets at $35 for a buffet dinner of chicken, scrod, pasta, and pork. DIOCESAN DIVORCED & SEPARATED SUPPORT GROUP meets at the Family Life Center, 500 Slocum Rd., N. Dartmouth from 7 to 9 p.m. on the Second & Last Mondays of each month. The next topic is "Rebuilding After Divorce," offered on October 25. A video from Notre Dame University will be shown, followed by small group discussions. YOUTH GROUP On Sunday, October 24 we will be going to the Youth Convention at Bishop Connolly H.S. in Fall River, leaving from here after the 10 a.m. Mass (approx. 11 a.m.). The Convention’s theme is "Living Justice, Proclaiming Peace." The keynote speaker is Tony Bellizzi, a great speaker from Long Island, NY. The music will be provided by Bernie Choiniere of St. Mary’s LifeTeen in Foxboro. There will be various workshops dealing with issues tied to justice & peace. Teens can choose which workshops they wish to attend. Bishop Coleman will greet the youth at the beginning of the day and the convention will end with Mass. Pizza will be served during a mid-afternoon break. If you would like to attend, please contact Fr. Wilson. We will have a Family Halloween Party on Friday, October 29 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the old St. Hedwig/Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe hall (because the hall here will be being prepared for the Penny Sale on November 1st).
PROJECT P.A.L.M.’s co-founders, Allysa Piché and Matthew Lecuyer, would like to extend their deepest thanks to all those who donated baby items for their service project. NOCHE CON EL MOVIMIENTO FOCOLARE AQUI el Viernes, 29 de octubre de 7 a 9 p.m. El movimiento Focolare fue fundado en Trento, Italia despues de la Segunda Guerra Mundial. Está presente en 182 naciones y tiene mas de 5 millones de miembros. Focolare significa "lugar con fuego." Chiara Lubich, junto con un pequeño grupo de amigas, se dio cuenta que Dios es el unico ideal por el cual vale la pena vivir y como resultado centraron su vida en el Evangelio. Muchos otros las seguieron. Se volvió su objetivo el esfuerzo de cumplir la oración de Jesus al Padre: "Que todos sean uno" (Juan 17, 21). Nació la espiritualidad de la unidad y creó un movimiento espiritual y de renovación social. Todos estan bienvenidos a pasar una noche de amistad con este movimiento catolico. "COURAGE" es un grupo para la gente que lucha con atracciones hacia el mismo sexo. Este grupo católico fue establecido por el Padre John Harvey, OSFS, para ayudar a estas personas para que vivieran la castidad, según la ley de Dios.
