ADVENT GIVING TREE will take place again this year! You will find ornaments on the tree with the words boy or girl and their age. Parishioners are invited to buy one toy for these children. We ask that you do not wrap them. Place the ornament on the gift so that the present can go to the correct person. The deadline for getting your gifts in is December 8. St. James will be joining other parishes this year in working with Catholic Social Services. Catholic Social Services will be distributing these gifts to the many families who are served by them throughout the city. We sadly need to mention that we will not be able to keep the gifts in the church for the next two weekends because the gifts are not safe in the church anymore. After each Mass the gifts will be brought to a safe place. Each year one of the joys that parishioners experienced was to see the amount of gifts increase each week. That will not be possible anymore. However we will have the joy of knowing that children will have a happier Christmas because of our generosity. Parishioners are asked not to spend too much money on these toys. In the past some parishioners went beyond their means to buy something for a needy child. A small gift that is within your means will mean a lot to a child. We have had the Giving Tree at St. James for 9 years. It has made Advent special. It has made Christmas a more joyful season for our parish. |
