SCHEDULING OF MASSES

The Mass Book for 2003 is now available. Parishioners are asked to call the rectory; leave your name and phone number on the machine; and express the intention that you would like to schedule Masses.

Please do not write the names and dates of Masses and put them in the collection. Certain dates may not be available and it would be difficult to contact you.

It is suggested that you schedule your Masses early so that you can get the time and day that you wish.

ADVENT GIVING TREE

Parishioners are invited to buy one toy or clothing for these children. We ask that you do not wrap them. Place the ornament on the gift so that the present can go to the correct person. The deadline for getting your gifts in is December 8.

St. James will be joining other parishes this year in working with Catholic Social Services. Catholic Social Services will be distributing these gifts to the many families who are served by them throughout the city.

CHRISTMAS MEMORIAL FLOWER ENVELOPES

are now available at the entrances of the church. Parishioners are asked to write the names of their deceased loved ones on the envelopes with your contribution to pay for the Christmas flowers. These names will be published in the bulletin on the weekend of December 28/29, the Feast of the Holy Family. The deadline of returning these envelopes ( which may be placed in the collection, mailed to the rectory, or put through the mail slot at the front door of the rectory) is Sunday, December 22.

CHANGES IN THE LITURGY

The Vatican has issued a new General Instruction for the celebration of Mass and for the regulation of appointments in the church.

St. James has already implemented the changes regarding the Liturgy of the Word.

Now we will implement that part of the Instruction that deals with the altar where the Blessed Sacrament is reserved. All candles are to be removed to give more prominence to the sanctuary lamp. It is an attempt to reduce the duplication of symbols and to give more attention to the symbols that remain. (The two candles on each side of the tabernacle in the chapel will be removed for the same reason.
