December 16 to 23 – Novena in preparation for Christmas (The road to Bethlehem/ "Posadas") Every night we will meet at 7:30 and leave from the Fair St. parking lot in a carpool to pray and sing in English and Spanish. Children can dress as Mary, Joseph and the angel. If you would like to have your house host one night or if you would like your children to dress up, please call the rectory.

December 28 – 7 p.m. Parish Movie night: The Education Committee is sponsoring another movie, this time it’s Becket, the story of St. Thomas á Becket, starring Richard Burton and Peter O’Toole. We will watch the movie in the church hall on the eve of St. Thomas Becket’s feast day (which is Wednesday the 29^th). All are welcome.

December 31 – New Year’s Eve night of fun & prayer: Why not end the old year and begin the new one with your fellow parishioners and Christ? We will begin with games and potluck refreshments from 9 to 11 p.m. in the hall. Please feel free to bring board games, cards, or other things which would be enjoyable to share and some food or sweets. At 11 p.m. we will go upstairs for a Holy Hour before the Blessed Sacrament of Jesus’s Body & Blood, so as to look over 2004 in our prayer, asking forgiveness for our sins and thanking God for His countless blessings. Then at Midnight we will begin 2005 with Mass. All are welcome!

31 de diciembre – Nochevieja de diversion y oración: Sería una Buena idea terminar el año Viejo y comenzar el Nuevo con tus hermanos feligreses y con Cristo. Comenzaremos con juegos y comida en el salón desde las 9 hasta las 11 p.m. Por favor trae algo de comer para compartir y/o algun juego, cartas, etc. A las 11 p.m. subiremos para una Hora Santa con el Santíssimo Sacramento, repasando el año 2004 en oración, pidiendo perdón por nuestros pecados y dando gracias a Dios por sus bendiciones inumerables. A las 12 (medianoche) tendremos Misa para abrir el año 2005. Todos estan bienvenidos!

COURAGE is a group for people dealing with same-sex attractions while trying to live chastely. Founded by Fr. John Harvey, OSFS, the group is faithful to the Church’s teachings on human sexuality. The next meeting is on Sunday, December 19 at 7 p.m. in the rectory. All are welcome.

"COURAGE" es un grupo para la gente que lucha con atracciones hacia el mismo sexo. Este grupo católico fue establecido por el Padre John Harvey, OSFS, para ayudar a estas personas para que vivieran la castidad, según la ley de Dios. ENGLISH CLASS has begun. Nancy and John are offering it Wednesdays from 7 to 9 p.m. in the rectory. It is open to anyone who would like to improve their English. GOING TO COMMUNION: Please allow the Eucharistic ministers time to get to their positions before coming forward to receive the Eucharist. This will help to make this important moment in the Mass (the highlight of our week) less chaotic and more prayerful. Thank you for your cooperation.

CUANDO VAYAS A RECIBIR LA COMUNION, por favor espera hasta que los ministros de la Comunión se encuentren en el lugar en donde estarán dando la Comunión. Este es un momento muy importante en el que todos podemos ayudar a que haya orden, silencio y devoción.

WHAT IF I HAVE A COLD? The Diocese of Fall River put out a notice regarding the flu season this week. It reads, "As we approach the cold & flu season, care should be taken in the distribution and reception of Holy Communion. Those who minister the cup are reminded to wipe both the inside and the outside of the rim and turn the cup and purificator after each reception by a communicant. In addition, after proper purification all chalices should be cleansed with hot water after each Mass using the sacrarium. All ministers of Holy Communion should thoroughly cleanse their hands prior to and after Mass. If a Special Minster of Holy Communion is showing cold/flu symptoms, he/she should refrain, if at all possible, from the exercise of one’s ministry at that particular time. Communicants showing cold or flu symptoms should refrain from the reception of the Precious Blood at Mass. While ‘Holy Communion has a fuller form as a sign when it is distributed under both kinds…the Catholic faith teaches that Christ, whole and entire, is received under only one species’ (General Instruction of the Roman Missal, 2000). Finally, participants at Mass who show cold or flu symptoms or are concerned about their own health should use common sense in participating in the ritual action of handshaking during the sign of peace. A simple nod of the head, along with the greeting ‘peace be with you’ extended to those nearby would be an adequate response."

SI ESTAS ENFERMO/A o estas refriado, o tienes monga o cualquier otra enfermedad, La Diocesis de Fall River ha escrito esta semana que se debe hacer. Dice la carta, "Se acerca la temporada de los resfriados y de la monga, hay que tener ciudado en la distribución y recepción de la Sagrada Comunión. Los que administran el caliz deben recordar de limpiar el caliz por fuera y por dentro y de girar el caliz y el purificador despues de cada persona que bebe la Sangre. Ademas, despues de la debida purificación, todos los calices deben ser lavados con agua caliente despues de cada Misa, usando el "sacrarium" (el tubo que ya directo a la tierra). Todos los ministros de la Sagrada Comunión deben lavar sus manos atentamente antes y despues de Misa. Si un ministro especial de la Sagrada Comunión tiene sintomas de resfriado o monga, él/ella debe ausentarse, si es posible, de ejercer su ministerio durante ese tiempo. Feligreses que tienen sintomas de resfriado o monga no deben recibir la Sangre Preciosa en la Misa. Aunque ‘La Sagrada Communion tiene una forma mas plena de señal cuando se distribuye bajo las 2 especies…la Fe Catolica enseña que Cristo, totalmente y plenamente, es recibido aun bajo una sola especie’ (Instrucción General del Misal Romano, 2000). En fin, los participantes en la Misa que tienen sintomas de resfriado o monga o que se preocupan por su propia salud deben usar su sentido comun en cuanto a dando la mano en la Señal de la Paz….Una respuesta adequada puede ser un saludo con una inclinación de la cabeza con la salutación ‘la paz esté contigo’ a los que nos rodean."

Eucharistic Adoration: Now on Wednesdays: From 7 to 9 p.m. we will have Eucharistic Adoration, with the Rosary prayed at 7:20, a talk at 8 p.m., Night Prayer & Benediction at 8:45, and Confession is offered during the evening. Please enter from the Fair Street Parking lot.

R.IC.A. es el proceso de clases para preparar adultos que no han recibido el bautismo o la 1ª Comunión o la Confirmación o que eran de otra religion y ahora quieren hacerse catolicos. Tenemos estas clases los domingos a las 10 a.m. en el salón parroquial. Si no pudiste venir hoy, por favor ven el Domingo próximo.

RCIA is the process of classes to prepare adults who have not received Baptism or First Communion and Confirmation or were of another religion and would like to become Catholics. We will have classes in English beginning in the January. You may go either after the 10 a.m. Mass on Sundays or Tuesday night at 6 p.m. Please contact Fr. Richard if you are interested.

PUBLICITY FOR THE BOOK of the Historical Memory of the Diocesan Hispanic Apostolate (a bilingual history of the 7 parishes) is being sold so that the book may be published in early 2005. A ½ page ad costs $120. It might be a good place to remember a deceased loved one or to give thanks to Mary, St. Jude or St. Anthony. Dartmouth. It will be a good opportunity to consider the different options that we have in life and to consider what is it that God desires. Please think about coming – no obligation is incurred.
