21st Sunday in Ordinary Time

In the first reading today, we hear that Joshua stands before the people and declares that he and his family are making a choice. Should he choose the false gods and their teachings or should he choose God? He says that he will choose God.

Joshua knew who he was and he lived out who he was by choosing God.

If we have been Catholic all our lives, could it be possible that we haven’t been faced with choosing? Life goes along. We live our lives. We believe in Christ, but there isn’t that great moment in our lives that came for Joshua.

Could that be because we do not who we are? Could it be because we don’t know the real Christ? St. Paul tells us who we are and who Christ is in images of marriage. Christ is the groom and we are the bride. Christ is married to us and we to him. We are one body and one heart. We are who we are in relationship to each other. We are the body of Christ and he is the head of the body.

We are called to choose by saying to the Lord, "Lord where shall we go? You have the words of everlasting life".
