32nd Sunday of Ordinary Time

November 10, 2002

By Very Reverend Edward Correia, Pastor

The story is told of a young student who went to the house of a rabbi. When he entered the house, he saw nothing but shelves of books, a table and one chair. The young boy asked, "Where is your furniture?".

The rabbi responded by asking, "Where is your furniture?".

The young boy said, "I am only a visitor".

The rabbi responded, "So am I".

The rabbi had wisdom to make a life rather than make a living.

Wisdom is not the acquiring of knowledge in science, or computers or any other field. Wisdom is a gift of the Holy Spirit. It is the Holy Spirit leading and showing where God is in our lives.

As we end the six weeks of our Renew this week, we have been praying over the Holy Trinity. We know God the Father. Jesus taught us to pray to him. We knew God the Son. Jesus is our savior. He died for us and rose for us. He makes God the Father present. It is through Christ that we go to the Father.

It is the Holy Spirit that we do not know. The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Holy Trinity. The Holy Spirit binds us to Christ who then brings us to the Father. The Holy Spirit binds us to one another as a Church.

The Holy Spirit is our teacher. He led us here today. Perhaps it was a thought, a sense of obligation, a desire, or something else that brought us here today. It was the Holy Spirit that was working in us to bring us to this miracle of the Mass.

The words that are proclaimed here are inspired by the Holy Spirit so that we can find God.

The Holy Spirit will come down upon the offerings of bread and wine and make them the body and blood of Christ. The Holy Spirit will come down upon this gathering and make us more of the church.

The Gospel tells us to be like the wise virgins who waited for the coming of the Lord.

We need to pray to the Holy Spirit. Come, Holy Spirit, show me where God is in my life so that I can welcome him. Take away Holy Spirit all that prevents me from seeing the Lord coming in my life. Wisdom is to be open to the teachings of the Holy Spirit When he comes at the end of my life, may my lamp be burning brightly so that he can invite me into his kingdom.
