Easter Vigil April 19, 2003 by Rev. Edward Correia
Jesus Christ is Risen! Alleluia! Alleluia! I can understand people who don’t want to read the newspaper anymore. I can understand people who don’t want to watch the news on TV anymore. It’s bad news. Will the war in Iraq spill into Syria or North Korea? What’s is going to happen to our economy? How do we fix the problems with our schools?… our drop out rate? How long will our troops have to stay in Iraq? Tonight we hear good news! Jesus Christ is Risen! He has conquered evil and death. He is the Lord of the universe. We began this celebration in darkness. Then the church was filled with the light of the Risen Christ. Each of our faces was shining with the light of Christ. We are the good news because we are believers of the Risen Christ. The question is how much are we willing to invest our lives in this good news? May the "I do" that we say to the baptismal promises tonight be more than just a ritual. May it be a profound and total commitment to the life that the Risen Christ calls us live so that our light together may fill the darkened world with the joy of Easter. |
